Do you remember how excited we were that Joel got to go swimming for the first time in over a year? Joel got to go swimming because they removed his broviac and decided not to replace it until “something changed.” We thought he would hate it because he really hated baths, but he actually really enjoyed swimming and was very peaceful in the water. Here are a few pictures.

I didn’t know how I’d feel about finishing up this second round of radiation. It didn’t feel at all as monumental of finishing up the 6-week round of radiation. It was nice to have all the pomp and circumstance of a “last day” but it was a little disheartening since we had already had “last day” celebrations and it was kind of sad to be back. One of the neatest things they do for your last day of radiation is let you put your handprint on the wall of the recovery room. I had pictures of Joel’s handprint the first time and we decided to do Joel’s other hand this time and put it right next to his last handprint. A matching set. Again, it is hard to say whether it is sweet or devastating, but Joel’s “matching set” are the smallest hands on the wall.

I think it is striking how much chubbier Joel looks in this next photo compared to the previous one. These photos were taken just three days apart, but Joel’s huge appetite due to the steroids he was taking have really made a shift in Joel’s appearance. We’ll try to take a few more “fat” photos before the steroid hunger wears off.
