January 23, 2010

Do you feel stirred to pray for Baby Joel’s miraculous healing and recovery? Please post your prayers here. Every prayer encourages and edifies Amy and I immensely. And when we pray as the family of God, our faith is strengthened, angels are dispatched, strong holds are torn down and we draw close to Him.

We know that our prayers are heard by God!

    Our heavenly Father, as your Son has said we bring this little child before you, his parents, Ryan and Amy have given Joel to you as Hannah had done with her son Samuel, because she had asked of the Lord. We are asking not to touch this child, heal and bless with all your healing virtue and power, for we know and believe you are able to do all things. Let not his parents hearts be trouble or be afraid, let your holy presence rest on each of them, giving them the confidence of your promise that by the stripes that were laid on the back of your Son we are healed. We will give you all the praise and the glory for we know you are working even now, in the Name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth we seek thy face.     Thanks be to our great God Jehovah Rafah for you are the one true God and you heal all our diseases. I thank you for the miraculous way you preserved Joel’s life at his birth and for his miraculous healing now. I can truly see your hand upon him. Thank you for increasing our faith and for the sacrifice of Jesus that not only was for our salvation but also for our healing. You are good all the time. We give you praise and honor and glory!     Last night I went to bed feeling spiritually and emotionally exhausted after only three days of waging this spiritual war on Joel’s behalf but then I read in Romans 15:5 that our God is the God of endurance and encouragement. God I praise you that you never grow weary and that you are constantly fighting for Joel. I praise you that as Hebrews 12:3 says you endured from sinners such hostility against yourself, so that we may not grow weary or fainthearted. I pray for Isaiah 40:29-31 for the rest of us (especially Amy and Ryan): “He gives power to the faint, and to him who has no might he increases strength. Even youths shall faint and be weary, and young men shall fall exhausted; but they who wait for the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint.” In Jesus name I pray.

    Father, thank you for your presence for Amy during this frightful time. Thank you for pouring out your love to her and to the family. Thank you for forming us and knowing us and standing with us and for us in all of our circumstances. Thank you that we are not alone. Father continue in the midst of this heart-rending situation and bring healing with the peace that you have so abundantly given. Touch Joel with your physician’s hands and father’s heart.     Father we trust your involvement in this situation, and rest in your sovereign will, knowing that you love this child and his parents, and want the best for them. Please guide the surgeons’ hands and eyes, give them accuracy and wisdom and they work. Make your calming presence known in the family, and give Jen the right words to minister to her family even as she is experiencing the fear that this uncertainty brings.

    In Mark 1:40-45, Jesus healed not to show He was the Son of God or to draw people so He could teach them (in fact it made His teaching more difficult because so many people came). Jesus healed because of His compassion. To the question of ‘If you are willing’, Jesus answered clearly, ‘I am willing.’
    We pray, Father, healing for Joel, in agreement w Your Word that says ‘I am willing’. Oh, God, we come to you. We cry out to You that Joel might be cleansed. In the Name of Jesus Who is moved by compassion, let it be done.

    Jesus, using a fig tree as an exaple of our authority spoke to the tree saying, “May no one ever eat fruit from you again!” The next day they passed by the tree and saw the tree withered from the roots up. Jesus response was “Have faith in God.” Mark 11:23, 24 “Truly I say to you, whoever says to this mountain, ‘Be taken up and cast into the sea,’ and does not doubt in his heart, but believes that what he says is going to happen, it shall be him. 24 Therefore I say to you all things for which you pray and ask, believe that you have received them, and they shall be you.
    If we believe the Bible is the inspired word of God then we must believe the inspiration in Jesus using the term “believe that you have received” as in believe that you have already received or believe that it has already happened. Amy continue to give thanks for the answer to our prayers because we give thanks for gifts we have received not gifts we are hoping to receive someday. We have been given the word of God so that we will know what the will of God is and as long as our prayers are in agreement with the will of God we will have what we pray for.+ewpray.

    As I read your story my thoughts go back 20 years to the time I sat in the NICU watching and waiting. Your thoughts are the same as mine. God PLEASE be with my son. Call all the people to pray for my child. Who will take care of Brandon and Jacob while I am here with Brian?….. On and on. But what remains constant is that God will supplies all your needs. He gives strength when you think you cannot go on. He is the Great Physician. He is the Healer. He is the ONE who sits on the throne!     Lord Jesus, you are the eternal God who created the earth and formed us in your image. You are the one true God and Savior who came to earth and died for our sins allowing us to live lives without sin, holy and pleasing to you. You are the power by which we live day to day, rejoicing in your name. I praise you Jesus. Lord, I pray for Joel, that he would be healed, that you would reach into him and remove the cancer. Lord, I pray for his family, that, in your steadfast love, you would be with them during this time of much sorrow and tears.     Is any one of you in trouble? He should pray. Is anyone happy? Let him sing songs of praise. Is any one of you sick? He should call the elders of the church to pray over him and anoint him with oil in the name of the Lord. And the prayer offered in faith will make the sick person well; the Lord will raise him up. If he has sinned he will be forgiven.
    Father, we praise you right now, because we know you are powerful, sovereign, and loving. We know that this whole situation is in your hands and you are always in control. We thank you for that promise and assurance. We lift up little Joel to you right now. We ask that you will hold this child in your arms, and heal his body from the cancer that is in him. Give him a body, strong and completely healed. Above everything though, we glorify you in this situation and pray that no matter what the situation is, we always glorify you in all that happens.
    I also lift up Joel’s family and ask that you will provide the much needed rest for all of them. Take the burden they are carrying and allow them to find their rest and comfort in you. Allow them to be a beacon of light, showing you to everyone they meet. We know you are faithful and we praise you for that. In Jesus name I pray!

    Lord, I lift up Baby Joel to you. Right now. Right Here. He needs your Loving arms wrapped tightly around him now. Father, you know his body inside and out. You know every in and out You have counted every blood cell. You Lord can heal baby Joel. We are asking and believing in a miracle from you.
    Father, control his blood pressure. Father, calm him. Father, allow his Mama and Daddy to hold him and feel Joels warmth and love coming from you. Peace is what they need, peace.
    Lord, if it is your desire to allow Joel to have the surgery please guide the surgeons hands. If that tumor is still visible Lord let it unwrap itself tonight.

    Father God – I think You for the privilege of praying for this precious child. I ask that You remove anything that is not of You from Joel’s body. And if Joel needs this surgery on Tuesday then I ask that You to place a hedge of protection around and about little Joel. I pray that You guide the hands of the surgeons and everyone involved. I pray for peace and rest for Ryan, Amy and Joel as well as for his brothers tonight. And I pray for strength and courage on Tuesday. Father, Your word says in Joshua 1:9 that we are to be strong and courageous, that we are not to be terrified or discouraged, for You will be with us wherever we go.     God I thank you that you are intimate and involved. I thank you that you are sovereign in ALL things. I thank you that you know and value baby Joel. I thank you act in these circumstances because he is precious in your eyes, and honored, and you love him (Isa. 43:4). God I pray that you will heal Joel, take away all the cancer and its effects and restore him to perfect health! I also ask that you will take from him and from us, all fear. Please replace it with the faith and trust that comes from knowing you.

Jesus is hearing all of these beautiful prayers! Your praises that you are singing in your Spirit are causing the demons to flee! Keep singing them! God is so great! He is so big!     What a wall of faith. Joel, we are with you. In thought, in prayer, in Word. God is always with you. We are raising you up to God for healing and strength. We pray that your tumor will be gone tomorrow. I pray that your pain will recede after the tumor is removed. God is on your side. All of my church is praying for you too.     Father God, gracious savior Jesus, Holy heavenly Spirit, descend on Joel today. Father we ask that your Son and your angels descend in mass this morning. We call upon you Holy name, heavenly Father, to heal your little baby Joel. Father, surround Ryan and Amy and all of the family who love Joel with your grace and comfort. Let them know the peace that passes understanding.

    Father, we wrap ourselves in a paryer shawl symbolic of those who have loved you and worshipped you for thousands of years. We call upon all of the prayer warriors who have been touched by little Joel to call upon your mighty name. We ask again for the miracle of your healing grace.

    Father, we love you. We worship you. We have all faith and confidence in your mighty name.

    I learned of your son yesterday and have been praying for him and prayed for Joel last night when I was awakened a few times. I didn’t grow up in church and therefore don’t usually get old hymns stuck in my head, but I have been singing Great Is Thy Faithfulness, Great is Thy faithfulness, Morning to morning new mercies I see…This is a new morning with new mercies and miracles, both big and small to see. His timing is too perfect for us to know. I have not been good at memorizing scripture and while I was trying to find something I was thinking of this morning I read 2 Peter 3:8-9 and felt compelled to write it here, “He does not want anyone to perish, so he is giving more time for everyone to repent.” I am confident that your faith will heal your son. “While Jesus was still speaking, some men came from the house of Jairus, the synagogue ruler. “Your daughter is dead,” they said. “Why bother the teacher any more?” Ignoring what they said, Jesus told the synagogue ruler, “Don’t be afraid; just believe.” (Mark 5:35-36) Not just your faith is believing in Joel’s healing by Our Great Physician, but many others’ faith around the world who are joining you in lifting Joel up to Our Father. Your faith is amazing and has stirred me to work harder to memorize more scripture and be strengthened. “Dear Father in Heaven, our stronghold and our rock, thank you so dearly for the miracles we have already seen in Joel’s recoevery and for those yet to come. I thank you that you are a God who comforts the downcast (2 Corin. 7:6) and I pray that you will show yourself true in this situation. And he healed every kind of disease and illness. News about him spread as far as Syria, and people soon began bringing to him all who were sick.     I am recovering after brain surgery that was done on 1/13/2010 and was discharged from the University of Colorado hospital’s on the day of Joel’s surgery. I pray that you will sustain them in such a way that they are able to be joyful and sweet to one another in the midst of suffering and sacrifice. I pray that you will be their stronghold when they feel overwhelmed and moods naturally turn sour. I thank you that you say in 2 Chronicles 16:9 that your eyes run to and fro throughout the whole earth, to give strong support to those whose heart is blameless toward you.     Her name is Marilyn.
    “When a friend of mine was undergoing chemo, the Lord gave me a scripture to
    give to her, it is in Mark 16:18, it says: ‘Even if they drink anything
    deadly, it will not hurt them.’ amplified. Chemo falls under that category,
    and we have the right to allow it no access to harm healthy cells. It will
    do only what it was meant to do, and kill the cancer. I am claiming healing

It is beautiful that you have chosen to have us partner with you in doing great works, but it is so comforting that even when we are faithless that your are faithful. Please continue to be yourself in this trial and care for your family.

    God I thank you that in the midst of situations that we don’t always understand that we can trust that you are good. I thank you that you open yourself up to be a stronghold for the needy, that you are in the business of caring for us even though we are so far below you. God I thank you that you KNOW the Green family. You KNOW their trial, their worries, their thoughts, their joys, their faith and their prayers. I pray that you will truly be their stronghold as they take refuge in you. Protect them, give them rest, shield them, keep them from the things that would do them harm, especially baby Joel.

    Dear Lord, thank you that this little soul is out of hospital. Jesus I pray that his swallowing and drinking coordination will become normal, that this feeding tube can be removed. I pray that Joel will be able to suck, swallow and chew to get his nourishment. Give him wonderful appetite Lord. Strengthen Amy and Ryan as they are now the primary caregivers. Give them insurmountable energy. Give joy instead of mourning. Keep them well, protect them from viruses and illness and protect their home. Lord don’t let them lack any good thing, for you are good. I pray and believe that this little baby will grow up to be a testimony to your great power and may he serve you all his life. In Jesus precious name. Amen and Amen.

    Ryan, I read Joel’s blog every day and I have prayed for him and your entire family since the day I first heard of you, about 3 weeks ago. Bless you for letting your sweet wife be fed and encouraged this weekend at her conference, and for sitting in the hospital with your precious baby. I know it is not humorous, but your postings the last couple of days have brought a smile to my face. I cry and then I laugh out loud! I have often wanted to write something on here but hadn’t yet. But tonight I feel compelled to say that you are a great dad and the testimony your family is living out is powerful.

    Oh God, how your earthis groaning, we are groaning for this little baby. Let this family see a light of encouragement. Pull them through this ” hole” as they say.     Lord thank you for the prayers of your people. Lord heal the weariness of this family. Lord I pray an end to their suffering, worry and I thank you for Amy and Ryan’s steadfastness. Lord cancel any plans of the enemy for this precious baby Joel. In Jesus Mighty Name he will grow to be a man of God. May your Name be glorified. Jesus take captive over the fevers, viruses, infections that plague this little body. Thank you for no cancer cells in his spine, I ask you remove cancer cell everywhere else. Strenthen and build up Joel immune system, and keep the rest of the family healthy. Give them sufficient rest and power to walk this new normal until you see fit to completely heal this baby. Build them up Lord to be strong in you. Hedge them with your protection so the enemy will have no part of this.     I have been reading a book called Total Church by Tim Chester and Steve Timmis and a section reminded me of the faith that the Green Family and everyone else around them have displayed through this trial. I figured I would share. Here it is:
    “There is a kind of faith that comes from seeing miraculous signs, but true faith comes through the words of Scripture and the words of Jesus. John goes on, ‘Now while he was in Jerusalem at the Passover Feast, many people saw the miraculous signs he was doing and believed in his name. But Jesus would not entrust himself to them, for he knew all men’ (vv.23-24). Jesus does not trust the king of faith that comes from seeing miraculous signs. It is not diffcult to imagine why. Such faith is likely to be fair-weather faith. It will believe when signs are performed, prayers are answered, things are going well. But it is not the sort of faith that will survive the loss of a child, a period of illness or some other trauma. Persevering faith comes through the word of God.”
    I have seen you guys display this type of faith and I pray that God will continue to bring to mind more scripture that affirms your faith!

    We stand in agreement with so many and with Baby Joels’ mom Amy. We come against the spirit of nausea, vomiting, weight loss, loss of appetite. Lord it seems he must go through the chemo and radiation, so Lord I ask in Jesus name that you would protect baby Joel from all the negative side effects. Lord instead allow baby Joel to thrive, eat, gain weight and replace his sadness with joy.Despite this therapy allow Joel to become strong and a happy little boy and shrink this tumour to nothing.     I was reading the Bible the other day and I read this passage and I really felt like I needed to share it with you. It’s Psalms 126:5-6

    5 Those who plant in tears
    will harvest with shouts of joy.
    6 They weep as they go to plant their seed,
    but they sing as they return with the harvest.

    Lord, I know Ryan and Amy have cried many tears over Joel and this situation. I can’t imagine how hard it is. But Jesus, you promise our mourning will be turned into dancing and our tears into singing. I pray that even when their tears flow they are reminded of your redemption power and that you will redeem every situation for your glory and their good. We praise you God. I praise you for Joel and the marvelous creation that he is. I praise you for giving Ryan and Amy strength in this time. God, I praise you that YOU are in control and we can trust you. Jesus, be God in this situation, whatever that looks like and whatever that means. Continue to give Ryan and Amy faith in your word and steadfast peace, regardless of what doctors say. I ask for your supernatural healing of Joel’s body. I ask that you keep the nausea away from him, that he gains weight and you make him strong from the inside out. You are in control, Lord.     God brought my son Douglas back from the dead 14 years ago! He suffered a severe brain injury wherein it was said if he ever did survive he would never see, hear, walk, talk or have any intelligence. Don’t get me wrong, he was a sick little boy for many years and I felt like I lived to clean up vomit for many years but look at him on my facebook now. You would never know it. With God all things are possible!!!!!! Remember, this secret, there is powere in the Word and the devil cannot read your mind so speak only what is edifying. This way the messengers of our Lord can go to work for God’s Glory instead of the reverse. Keep your fears in your mind and never breath a word and pray about them silently!

    My goodness this little angel is being blessed by so many people….
    Thats how it should be…
    I am a great grandma to a beautiful 18 month old little girl….Leila Grace….
    A scan showed she has only one functioning kidney…
    She was born and allmost immediately fell ill with B;lood poisening and menangitus…
    She was in a baby unit for 6 weeks…
    I set up a prayer circle with freinds from around the world as well as our church….
    My point being that so much love and concern for little ones that prayer becomes a weapon with which GOd works for the good of their well being….he sees, he understands,he loves Joel MUCH MORE than even Joels parents and family….
    Im seeking the rihgt way forward to pray…
    I only know when Leila was so ill somehow I was praying in the spririt….I wailed, somethingIve nver done for half and hour two times…..maybe like people do at the Wailing wall in Jerusalem….
    Ive not prayed like that again, but our little angel is alive and active and gorgeous…..
    When we pray in the spirit its so powerful and the love we feel for that baby is being poured out to a God who hears it…..
    Im going to pray for Joel as if he were my own family…
    Hope his parents can pray powerfuly too…
    So many people sending gifts of love and prayer will testify and give the Glory to God….he will bring healing…I claim healing right now for \Joel…I claim it in the powerful nad beautiful name of Jesus…Praise you Father God for your precious gift of prayer…

    While reading Acts 12 today I was brought to tears by what the Holy Spirit showed me. Acts 12:1-5 tells us how Peter was arrested for the third time and was awaiting execution in what was basically maximum security prison. The church had already been brought low by the recent execution of James and was now making what Acts 12:5 describes as EARNEST prayer to God on Peter’s behalf. Later in the chapter we know that God sends an angel to save Peter from certain death and it is easy to assume that it was due to the prayers (full of faith) prayed by the church. But when Peter shows up at the very house where they are praying they say to the girl who recognizes him, “You are out of your mind.” (Acts 12:15). It is interesting to note that those who were praying so fervently for Peter’s deliverance should regard as insane the person who informed them that their prayers had been answered. Clearly their prayers were EARNEST, FERVENT and FAITHFUL but maybe not FULL OF FAITH. I get the impression that they struggled with unbelief in the face of impossible circumstances but chose to be obedient and pray regardless. I often find my prayer life to be like this which is what makes God’s response so beautiful to me. So God I do pray again for a full restoration of Joel’s health and I thank you that you are not limited by my often little faith.

    “As He is, so am I…..”, I was reading Joseph Prince’s book last night and came across this in one of his teachings on grace. When Jesus was here on earth, He was whole and strong. When He died for us, He nailed all sickness, disease, etc. on the cross, that includes cancer. Jesus did not have cancer, neither should baby Joel or anyone else. “By Jesus’ stripes, baby Joel is healed. He is made whole by the wounds of Jesus. That brain tumor was nailed to the tree 2000 years ago and by faith let’s take or claim a new brain for baby Joel. “By the blood of Jesus, baby Joel has a new brain, he is strong in the Lord and in the power of His might.” You can speak words like that over him, or sing it out to him each day. Sing, “Jesus loves me this I know, for the bible tells me so……and so on” I’ll keep him prayer. God bless you and the rest of the family.

    I was reading today in Joshua and I thought of the two of you. And then I read your blog about Gideon and battles and I was stirred to pray for you and share. The Lord had passed down Moses’ authority to Joshua and ordered him to take his men across the Jordan to take the land He had promised. The Jordan was rushing at flood levels…I wonder what Joshua was thinking but I know he had been witness to the way God worked thru Moses and reading this I was stirred in my faith as I remembered all the times God has provided a way when no way seemed to exist. I love that Joshua did not doubt, he simply obeyed. How awesome is that! I love in verse 6 the Lord says :Be storng and courageous” I am praying this for you today. He says ” be careful to obey all the law my servant Moses gave you; do not turn from it to the right or to the left, that you may be successful wherever you go…….vs 9 (again He says) be strong and courageous. Do not be trerrified; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.”
    I pray that as you stand in faith you will be strong and courageous and know that God has a plan and He is perfect in His plan. He is able to stop up the flood waters and allow safe passage. He is faithful true and mighty and He will be with you every step of the way. We contend with you for that which Jesus died on the cross…VICTORY over death, the POWER of His blood!!

The changing over is a shedding of a fragile and finite shell – what we here love so dearly – for a glorious, infinite body no longer seen, though certainly sensed by those who remain. We long for the things our eyes can see to never change, for us to never lose sight of anything or anyone. Oddly, we even expect it! Yet, everything about this earth, this life, changes. It’s only in the leaving that permanence is gained. What we’re doing here is crazily sowing for eternity. In this time of waiting and watching and hoping, know that life, whether here or there, is never lost.

    I stand – and I kneel – with you, and plead to the One who holds life and passing in His hands that He might not stay His hand while the cancer advances, that He might move to save Joel for this life, that He might not ask you to go through this. I also pray for fearlessness for you. You ARE kept safe. And so is Joel!

It blesses me to see you two walk this with so much faith and yet He will provide more and you will never be the same. Praying that your mantle will be one of praise to your Father and that it will well up out of the spring He has filled within you, the spring of living water. Praise leads to Joy, Joy leads to strength that births trust and from there the deep well of faith. Praising God that He is big enough, full enough and good enough!

    some of what you are learning and being taught is not perfectly in line with all of the correct teaching and God’s word. We have all learned different things at different times. Be vigilant, focus on Jesus and do not take your eyes off of Him. A lot of times well meaning Christians and doctors try to support us in our faith and also balance the medical reality as to prepare us for the worst in order to try to protect us as humans from so much pain. With God ALL is possible. Thank you for sharing!! Just curious, which states do the experimental treatment available?

    Hey guys, I think of you often and have a couple words for you and a scripture. Well my first word that I pray over and over is that God is relentless. He is all powerful, unyielding, steady and persistent even in Joel circumstance. You guys are amazing…..keep seeking, asking and knocking:) Also, after Ryan talked at church recently it blew me away how much you’re seeking God’s word and what glory you bring him. It sounds like God is doing a mighty work in Ryan as well. So I’ve been praying that he would continue to relent to God which means to become more lenient, compassionate or forgiving or to cause to soften in attitude or temper. Let me know if you feel that is way off base. Also, I pray for you all to have love, strength, provision and joy through it all. Anyhow here is a scripture for you, Deut. 31:6 “The Lord your God will go ahead of you. He will neither fail you nor forsake you” May you be blessed! joy

We have no control over how or when He chooses us. We as humans think we can make that choice but that is incorrect. We have been tought a lot of things in the churches that are incorrect. We must only rely on Him who is the word the Holy Bible alone.

    My husband and I have been closely following Joel’s progress and praying since shortly after his diagnosis. We have a daughter just a couple months younger than Joel, so we have felt deeply for your family through this journey. When I read the post about your initial bad prognosis from the neurologist followed by your amazing news, I rode the roller coaster of that day along with your story, weeping for the two of you and for Joel and despairing that we might all lose this little angel we’ve come to know through your generous sharing with us. When I came to the news of his remission, I was almost sobbing in joy and gratitude to God. Oh–did I mention I was at work? I ended up having to share the story with co-workers who all ended up in tears also! I cannot wait to get home and tell my husband!! (I work nights–trying to refrain from waking him up in my joy!) We will continue to pray that there will be no more sign of this and that God will heal Joel’s body of all effects from the treatments to the point where noone will believe he has had such an ordeal. Love you all in Jesus and can’t tell you how beyond happy I am for you that your faith is being rewarded in this way.

    Rest in the Lord, dear ones. Isaiah 30:15-16 and Matt. 11:28-29 are brought to mind. Rest does not mean inactivity. His rest is that place of trusting Him so completely. Nothing, I mean nothing can storm into that place of rest. I see that God has built that “rest” in you. You run to Him. You examine your feelings and submit them to the Lord, instead of trusting in them.

    The night before I the MRI results I read this in the bible and have found that God is continually taking me back to it as my heart tends to lean toward worry.

    “He did not weaken in faith when he considered his own body, which was as good as dead (since he was about a hundred years old), or when he considered the barrenness of Sarah’s womb. No distrust made him waver concerning the promise of God, BUT HE GREW STRONG IN HIS FAITH AS HE GAVE GLORY TO GOD, fully convinced that God was able to do what he had promised.” Romans 4:19-21

    It is clear here that Abraham could have chosen to focus on how the circumstances were stacked against him but instead he chose to to focus on the character and strength of his God. This was how he gave glory to God and by doing so grew his faith.

    I hope this is as encouraging to you as it has been to me. I am praying for all of you constantly as I do not ignore the poor circumstances but choose to set my gaze on the great glory of our God.

    So heartbreaking. I pray that God would annoint all the medical providers with skill and wisdom to provide supernaturally effective care. I pray that God would shrink to complete dissapearence the tumor and any and all other health problems.     Hi Amy & Ryan. I hadn’t checked the site in awhile and felt prompted to do so tonight.

    It has been a season of trauma, then miracles, followed by joy, followed by more trauma, followed by safe passage, for so many I know.

    I am so sad you are facing more. I’m heartened that God’s grace continues to abound. I’ve heard grace defined as God’s empowering presence to do all that He has called us to do. It is more than mercy!

    I’ve had this verse posted on my bathroom mirror for awhile now:

    “You are my hope, O Lord God, my confidence since I was young.

    I have been sustained by You ever since I was born.
    From my mother’s womb You have been my strength.

    I have been praying for baby Joel after seeing him on one of my friends list on facebook. Today as I was listening to a sermon, the preacher spoke of a woman named Betty Braxter, a women who was born with a disorder and became very crippled and had so much pain that doctors gave up hope and told her at 9 to go home and get ready to die. Only Betty and her mom believed that one day God would heal her. It is a wonderful and faith building story. Her is the website to her whole testimony.

    Couldn’t sleep tonight and spent some time catching up on Joel. I am not sure if I have very many words in me these days but I am praying for you two and Joel and your family. The fight can be exhausting so we lean into the One who renews us and strengthens us daily. Those false alarms and bad news are frustrating but God uses those to prepare you for whatever is next. He uses them to grow you, stretch you, to keep you desperate for more of Him because there is so much more of Him. We think we’ve seen Him and then WOW! there is more! I pray for the complete healing of Joel and although we prayed for Tim and we did not see that physical healing here on this earth I can tell you that the gifts God has given me through Tim’s death have changed my life. I have stood with Tim on the edge of this world and had the great and humbling honor of being by his side through it all and God has totally blown me away by His love and provision…even when I say those two worlds they can’t express what they mean in my heart. I’ve come to realize that Tim’s death is just the begining for him and it is just the begining for me. I used to long to go too. Long for heaven…”God please don’t leave me here alone.” I am so not alone and I am so excited about God and Jesus and the Holy Spirit. Perhaps I have never felt so alive in my life. I tell you this because in the last 10 months of our battle my heart changed and I was no longer afraid of death and I was no longer afraid of me living. THe revelation that God is my all and Jesus is truly enough was HUGE! And I tell you this because when you are tired you can rest and you can know that we already received the victory and no matter what God will be glorified and isn’t that what we want anyhow. A few months ago I began praying “God be glorified! Tim is yours I am yours our children are yours. We trust you with our very lives….BE GLORIFIED! Ryan and Amy you two are amazing and faithfilled and long suffering. There is a crown of Glory at the end of this battle and although you do not know what it is right now you can know this, it is unlike any crown you have ever seen or imagined and it is an awesome and life-altering gift that this world cannot give you. Only God. Many don’t receive it becasue they don’t SEE and they don’t BELIEVE…but you will and it will mess you up! I love you all dearly. Thank you for your hugs, love & prayers. I will continue to contend for Joel.

    First let me start by saying you two are amazing parents who are raising such amazing kids. I hope one day I will have my own children and hopefully be such and amazing mother to my children just like you are. (even thought I dont think any other mom will ever even compare to you) I’m only 15 and after watching this video I honestly am looking at things in life alot different and in such a postitive way. After a few bumpy paths Ive had in the last couple months dealing with depression and drug abuse I have honestly relized so much after watching this. After I watched this video (3 times because I love it so much) I realized Im blessed for what I have and should look at things more positive and do better for myself and be thankful for everyday that im blessed. Im am so thankful for watching that video. I honestly never thought I could be so inspired so quickly from a video. Im so speechless at how amazing you two are as parents and how your just thankful for everyday with him. You two are both so positive about your situation and I just want to say thank you. You have honestly and truly inspired me to make the most out of life as much, as I possibly can and do positive things to make myself happy and help others, and just try and be the best daugher or friend I can be. I will pray for Joel and the rest of your family everyday if not more. I wish you guys the best of luck and I hope you are just happy everyday and just enjoy life because you and your whole family deserve it sooo much.     Jesus, we just invite you right now to be what you cannot help but be and continue to heal this boy. We just declare total healing and newness over his little body!

    Jesus, we see the work you are doing through the life of this four year old and it is beautiful. The story that is living so strongly through such a small little vessel of hope is resounding in hearts all over the world and we thank you so much for this.

    Jesus, continue to provide for this family and give them the joy and strength to face each day looking into Your eyes.

I am a military wife currently living overseas with my husband and 20 month old. At times it can be so overwhelming, especially when the hubby is out at sea. But after seeing your journey I know I dont know the meaning of overwhelming. Your strength is an inspiration to us all. I also have Cerebral Palsy so I understand all about needs and day to day struggle. I want you to know that it is out of a desire to help children and families just like yours, that I am pursuing hospital chaplaincy. In the meantime, I will be praying for all of you.     Do we believe there is power in the name of Jesus for salvation? If so, we have no choice but to believe the name still has the same power to heal. What we believe, follows us (Mark 16:17).

    I saw your Youtube video today, and just read on the blog he has hearing aids. When he gets older, expect him to fuss over having them and feel uncomfortable, but whenever he does, let him know that in the UK, a 21 year old girl (right now!) has gone through her life with hearing aids and is going strong. I have no doubt that he will in turn do the same – and perhaps even do better than I am!!

    I just was praying and had a picture of Jesus standing, quite large in the ocean, like an angel, very big. Your son was with Him – This wasn’t a picture of death – but of victory. I was reminded of how terrified satan is of Christ, and how HE WON the battle, the war, and everything. He is standing with him right now, holding him close, and taking off everything the enemy put in him for good. Cancer is defeated – Everything must go in the presence of a Holy KING.

    May you continue to trust God’s plan for Joel and for your family. We know that “All things work together for those who love God. ” (Romans 8:28) and that one day God’s plan will be revealed.     I don’t know your family but have been led to pray for you. Your faith is inspiring and I am in awe at how much grace you have in the situation. Though I am unable to lay hands on your son, I believe in the strength of prayer that way. So instead I laid my hands on your pictures of Joel and prayed for the hand of God to be upon him and heal him. I truly wish the best for your family. God Bless.

    Today when I heard the news about the next stage of Joel’s condition, my heart broke and I felt afraid but then I was reminded of Moses words to the Israelites as they found themselves trapped between Pharaoh’s army and the Red Sea: “And Moses said to the people, ‘Fear not, stand firm, and see the salvation of the Lord, which he will work for you today. For the Egyptians whom you see today, you shall never see again. The Lord will fight for you, and have only to be silent.” (Exodus 14:13-14) I believe that God fights for Joel and for your family and it is my prayer that God will get glory over this cancer and that you will find comfort in God’s sovereignty. I love you so much!

    I have been following Joel’s progress for a couple of months and praying for GOD’s miracle. It saddens me that his precisous life here on Earth will soon come to an end. Your faith and unwavering hope has really helped me grow closer to GOD. Sending love and prayers to your family during these times. A special prayer to Joel that “GOD, the author and finisher, will comfort you and take away your suffering. Eternal life with our Lord.”

    your family is so brave and my heart goes out to you for all that your going through.i was watching the video of your story with joel and couldnt help but vividly remember my own journey with my mother who died from brain cancer and know that every fiber of every ounce of not wanting to let go of someone so precious was something i would inevitably have to do.please know i do believe god has a plan for him and someday we will all be reunited with our loved ones who live in the house of the lord. may you have peace at this time.god bless <3

I’m not sure if it matters or helps at all, but I just want to let you know how your faith has bolstered mine, and that I am praying for healing—for you and your family. I pray that the Holy Spirit will, even more so, be your Comforter in this time of need.

    I am so grateful to have been able to get to know your amazing family and precious Joel through the stories and updates you have so graciously shared here. Though we’ve never met and I live thousands of miles away Joel’s life and your family’s strength, love and faith have had a profound impact on me and my family’s life. Because of Joel we are forever changed for the better. Your family has given me the gift of renewed faith in God which I had been struggling with for sometime. A faith I am now able to share with my children. I think about and pray for your family everyday. Seeing your strength makes me stronger, I believe because you believe. My heart has been so heavy with sadness for your loss, and I’ve read and re-read Ryan’s update about the night Joel went home to The Lord (that was so emotionally powerful and eloquent and I’m so so thankful he shared it) and wondered how it was possible for anyone to make it thru such a painful loss and then I remembered what your family taught me…. God is love and He is always there with you, He will never leave you alone and with Him and thru Him all things are possible! Thank you, thank you, thank you for sharing Joel with us. Your family will forever be part of my family and in my heart!

    I count myself among those that have heard from God only to have things turn out differently that what I know I heard. I tell myself that some things are just not for me to know. What I do know is that God is perfect and His ways are perfect. The rest just has to work itself out.
    I am following another family (friend of my sisters’) that is going through the exact same situation as yours and I find myself knowing that I still have to believe and pray up until the last moment that this little boy will be restored miraculously just as we all prayed for Joel. I refuse to let the “no” for Joel be a “no” for little Ben until I have to except it. That exercise in faith has value, I just know it. I don’t know why God needs us to free fall into this kind of trust but I’m still going to do it.
    We all need to walk through this with you. I am so grateful for your honesty. We all need it. I trust God will answer your questions in time. In the meantime, thank you for being real and allowing us to take this journey with you. You posts and you’re having taken us through this journey with you have changed my life for the better. PLEASE keep posting! And I will keep praying for you and your family.

    I wanted to let you all know a couple of things.

    First, I wanted to thank you for being so public about your struggle and Joel’s story. My mom was diagnosed with cancer in November and I fell apart. I couldn’t work, sleep, eat. Nothing. And then I saw one of your videos and began to follow your story with Joel, and I want you all to know that God has used you guys in our family struggle with cancer. Thank you for taking that step. You didn’t have to, but you did. You could have pulled yourselves close and shut out the outside world, but you didn’t. You have no idea how much your family has ministered to me and mine in the midst of a cancer crisis. Because of Joel and your beautiful family and your faith, I saw that it is possible to put one foot in front of the other and keep going from day to day is this horrible, miserable battle against the cancer dragon. You guys don’t even know me, but you helped calm my deepest and darkest fears and reminded me that God is in control. Thank you for doing that. Words will never be able to adequately express my gratitude.

    The other thing I wanted to tell you is a little bit harder to express, so you’ll have to bear with me. Essentially, I’ve been reading some of your Mommy Questions posts. I can say that I can only glance over them because they make me start to cry, they remind me of the feelings and fear I have with my family’s cancer battle, and if I read them too in depth, I start to panic. But in the midst of my own panic, your grief and emotion and confusion are tugging at me. It’s like God is really wanting me to share something with you. You see, I have had a really rough life, and suffice it to say, I was hurt very badly as a child. I was so angry at God for all the pain I experienced – why didn’t He save me? Why did it happen to me? Who is He anyway? Why do good things always happen to bad people and bad things happen to good people? People would tell me that He was my Daddy, but I didn’t have a good daddy and I had nothing to compare Him to. So I asked Him to show me. Quite simple, I sat down and I said “God, I don’t know who you are really. All I have is head knowledge. And I’m angry at you for not being there and not saving me. So show me who you are.” And, you know what? He did. He gave me a vision of Him, one of heaven. And it was so amazing, it has changed my life. I am no longer the same person. I want to share with you what He showed me. For some reason I have yet to understand, Jesus allowed me a glimpse of who He is and what we have waiting for us in heaven. And right now, He is nudging me to share that with you.

    You see, for some reason I do not understand, Jesus allowed me to look upon His face. I stood a mere foot away from Him and was allowed to gaze upon Him. I couldn’t tell you what He looks like, or the color of His hair, or even if He had a beard or not. Because all I remember, and what I will never forget, is His eyes and the feeling of pure agape love that radiates off of Him. I can tell you that I didn’t know Jesus before I saw Him. I knew OF Him, but I didn’t know Him. Yet, in that moment before Him, I knew instantly it was Him and He didn’t have to say a single word. All my anxiety, fear, self-hatred, stress…EVERYTHING instantly disappeared. I knew how much I was loved and how I was safe and secure and there was nothing in the world that could take that away. There are no words in the English language to describe what it is like to stand in His presence. No words. It is the most miraculous, beautiful thing you could ever imagine. Those minutes with Him were the longest, most healing 20 minutes I have ever experienced. And when everything ended and I came to, I can tell you that all I wanted to do in that moment was to die so that I could sit in front of Him again and gaze at Him in awe for the rest of eternity. I used to wonder if Heaven would be boring. You know – no fun and just walking around on streets of gold singing hymns, right? Nope. As far as I am concerned, just sitting with Jesus and gazing at Him in awe would keep me satisfied for the rest of eternity. No questions asked. None.

    So I tell you all this, because that’s where Joel is, he is sitting in the presence of the Most High. He has no pain, he feels such an immeasurably and indescribable sense of agape love. He is COMPLETE. And you are right – if Joel was given the chance to come back here – he would say “No way!”. I experienced a brief glimpse of what he is experiencing, and I literally had to work my way out of being suicidal so that I could experience that again. Seriously.

    So, in all of your grief, I can tell you for certain, do not worry about Joel. He is well taken care of, he is no longer in any pain, he is talking and running and squealing and laughing, and he is experiencing indescribable joy, love, and happiness. He is WHOLE and COMPLETE and sitting by the right hand of the Father who loves him.

    Dear sweet family, alltough i’m not quite certain what i believe i know i have faith. I still say the word Him with a capital. And alltough i don’t know if He will listen, i know He will soothe and bless all of you.

    My faith was once strong, but sadly not at the moment. But i am regaining it. This may sound selfish but in a way you all have helped me. You came out stronger, and better followers of Him instead of turning your backs. If you can so can i.

    I won’t light a candle for Joel, he doesn’t need it. He is save and loved, on earth and in His kingdom. I will light a candle for the ones who miss him every day, that you may keep in mind that Our Father is your comfort, if you feel it or not. And that you praise and rejoice, just as we don’t like to see sad news. Joel certainly wouldn’t like to see sad loved ones.

    Dear Ryan and Amy,
    God bless you. I don’t know what to say- I first came across That Dragon, Cancer last year while doing research for storytelling in new media. I just found out about Joel’s death and I cried. I will pray for him, and for all of you. You are one amazing family, stay strong in faith. In your suffering you are sharing in Christ’s own sufferings and He will carry you (and is already doing so). May He bless Zoe richly also; and as you know that Joel is looking down from heaven at his wonderful family and his new younger sister, continue talking to him, because he can talk to Jesus on your behalf – Jesus always listens to the little ones. Another mother who lost a child reflected how her child helped her grow closer to God – Ruth Pakaluk said that when she was being silly she would think of her child in heaven looking at his mom wondering why :) Heaven and earth are not so far apart for us who believe in Christ.

    May the mother of Jesus -who also knew what it felt like to lose a son- be very close to you and give you strength and comfort in this difficult time.

    Dear Amy and Ryan, I followed your story along time ago and today found again the website and was so sorry to see Joel had passed on. Ryan, tomorrow begin Father’s Day, I know Joel is saying thanks Dad! Thanks for being there and loving me and caring for my sister and brothers and for never giving up along with Mommy. You are parents God smiles on and blesses through all the pain and hurt. When I was 11 I was home with my Dad when he took a call that my brother who was 19 was killed in a car accident at college. He had to wait an hour for my mom to get home. My dad passed on last year and I always think… the pain he carried losing his only son. Yet the grace he received in my son who looked so like my brother. I wish you all the love and the best in your lives. You are loving and kind and have given many parents comfort in your story shared over the years.
